A New Era for the Pittsburgh Steelers: Reshuffling Their Quarterback Room with Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen

Steelers continue quarterback makeover by adding third option to lineup alongside Russell Wilson and Justin Fields

The Pittsburgh Steelers have undergone a major reshuffling of their quarterback room this offseason, with several significant changes made. Firstly, the team traded Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles and saw Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph sign with new teams. In his place, the Steelers brought in Russell Wilson from the Denver Broncos and acquired Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears for a conditional sixth-round pick.

To further solidify their quarterback depth chart, the Steelers have recently added Kyle Allen as their third quarterback. Allen spent the 2023 season with the Buffalo Bills and has agreed to terms with the Steelers. He went undrafted in 2018 out of Houston and started 13 games for the Carolina Panthers in his first two NFL seasons before moving on to play for the Washington Football Team in 2020. He then signed with the Houston Texans in 2022, where he played in a total of 30 games, 19 of which he started, with 4,734 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions.

As of now, Allen is considered the third-string quarterback for the Steelers, but head coach Mike Tomlin has stated that competition will be fierce as they prepare for their upcoming season. However, Wilson is currently leading as the starting position contender for next season’s opening game.

The Steelers are looking forward to seeing how these new additions will contribute to their team’s success in the upcoming season.
