Become a Climate Change Detective: Maine Sea Grant and Cooperative Extension Launch Citizen Science Workshops

‘Schedule of Citizen Science Trainings for Seasonal Signs’

Maine Sea Grant and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension are launching a series of workshops next week for individuals interested in participating in the Signs of the Seasons citizen science project. This statewide initiative aims to identify and record cyclical and seasonal changes in over 20 indicator species, including milkweed, butterflies, and loons. These findings are essential in understanding Maine’s changing climate.

The first training session will begin in Brunswick on April 4 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Stimpson’s Point. Another session will follow in Falmouth on April 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gilsland Farm Audubon Center. For those unable to attend in person, a 3-part webinar series will also be available.

These workshops are free of charge, but registration is mandatory. Those interested can visit extension.umaine.edu/signs-of-the-seasons/training for more details about the project and to sign up for the workshops.
