Child’s Miracle Recovery: Saving a Life through Timely First Aid and Medical Treatment after a Tricycle Accident

Tricycle accident leaves 12-year-old boy with multiple injuries

As the 12-year-old patient was walking home from extra classes, he collided with a tricycle traveling in the same direction. The impact caused the wheel to crush him, leaving him in critical condition with multiple traumatic shocks, severe hemorrhagic shock, and swelling and contusions in various areas of his body.

Examination results revealed that the patient had blunt abdominal trauma, pelvic trauma, and other serious injuries. Deputy Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Poison Control, MSc. Do Quoc Phong, classified the situation as a serious and dangerous emergency due to the child’s young age, multiple injuries, severe hemorrhagic shock, and risk of imminent death.

Doctors quickly embolized the patient’s internal iliac artery to stop the bleeding at critical locations causing significant blood loss. Over the next 24 hours, the patient received nearly 4 liters of blood transfusion to stabilize his condition despite the risks and potential complications associated with large blood transfusions.

After iliac artery embolization, doctors continued treating the patient to stabilize him further. A surgical team specializing in digestive surgery repaired the bladder rupture site and addressed other injuries in his abdomen. After four days of treatment, his health had stabilized and he was undergoing monitoring and rehabilitation.

Dr. Phong emphasized that quick and accurate treatment is essential for pediatric patients experiencing complex multi-traumatic shock. He thanked E Hospital team members for providing timely first aid and emergency transportation at the scene which saved the child’s life.
