Derek Weisskopf and Jaidyn Sellers Recognized as Iowa High School Sports Athlete of the Year for Football and Track respectively

Athletes of the Year honored at Iowa High School Sports Awards

Derek Weisskopf from Williamsburg and Jaidyn Sellers from Panorama were named the Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year respectively at the Iowa High School Sports Awards presented by SCHEELS. The event, which recognized over 250 Iowa student-athletes, took place at Hoyt-Sherman Place in Des Moines.

Weisskopf was honored for his exceptional football skills, earning him a spot at the next level as a four-star recruit. He has accumulated numerous accolades throughout his high school career, including being named an ADIDAS All-American, Class 3A All-State Captain, District MVP, and receiving invitations to the Shrine Bowl and Des Moines Register Elite Team. In addition to football, Weisskopf also excelled in basketball and track and field. He earned all-conference honors and honorable mention all-state in basketball and was a state qualifier in track and field.

Sellers showcased her versatility across various sports during her high school career. She is known as the fastest sprinter in the state and won several state titles in both track and field events as well as placing third in high jump. She also won three Drake Relay Titles throughout her career. In basketball, Sellers led her team to a state championship by being named to the Class 2A first team by Des Moines Register. She will continue her athletic career at Iowa as a softball outfielder where she has excelled as a first-team all-conference player and all-state honoree.
