Diamondbacks Add Depth to Rotation with Signing of Veteran Lefty Pitcher Jordan Montgomery

Diamondbacks sign one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery to a one-year contract, worth up to $25 million, with a vesting option for 2025. Montgomery, who has seven years of experience in Major League Baseball, brings valuable depth to the Diamondbacks’ starting rotation.

In his first 21 starts with the St. Louis Cardinals last season, Montgomery had a 6-9 record and a 3.42 ERA. After being traded to the Texas Rangers in July, he went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA over his final 11 starts, helping the team win their first World Series title. With a career ERA of 3.68 and a record of 38-34 over 141 appearances, Montgomery is sure to be an asset to the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff.

Montgomery made his MLB debut in 2017 with the New York Yankees before joining the Cardinals in 2022. He will now join a strong rotation that includes Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt, and Ryne Nelson as the Diamondbacks open their season against the Colorado Rockies in Phoenix on Thursday.
