Fortum Elects New Board Members, Grants Discharge and Approves Dividend Amid Challenging Global Energy Landscape

Fortum’s Board Composition Decided at General Meeting

Fortum, a leading energy company, announced the results of its general meeting where nine individuals were elected to the board. Mikael Silvennoinen was appointed as the chairman, and Essimari Kairisto was elected as the vice-president. Ralf Christian, Luisa Delgado, Jonas Gustavsson, Marita Niemelä, Prank Paavola, Johan Söderström, and Vesa-Pekka Takala were also elected as members of the board.

The state had previously announced that it would be relinquishing its seat on the board when Maia Strandberg left his position. During the general meeting, discharge from liability for the 2023 financial year was granted to all board members and the CEO. A dividend of EUR 1.15 per share was approved, and the board was authorized to decide on acquiring shares in Fortum’s own stock. This authorization included a maximum acquisition of 20 million shares. This decision revoked the acquisition authorization granted at Fortum’s previous annual general meeting in 2023.

Fortum has been operating in Finland for over a century and is one of Europe’s largest energy companies with operations in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Russia. The company produces electricity from various sources such as hydroelectricity and coal-fired power plants.

In recent years, Fortum has faced challenges related to climate change and increasing demand for renewable energy sources. The company has responded by investing heavily in renewable energy projects such as wind farms and solar power plants.

With this new board in place and an authorization to acquire shares in its own stock, Fortum is well positioned to continue its investments in renewable energy while also maintaining its financial stability during these challenging times for global energy markets.

Overall, Fortum’s general meeting was successful in ensuring that all stakeholders were satisfied with its performance during 2023 while also paving the way for continued growth and success in years to come.
