Impact of Political Strikes on Finland’s Investment Decisions: Survey Findings and Industry Concerns”.

Nearly half of companies scaling back investments in Finland amid strikes – “Economy’s pillars shaken”

According to a survey conducted by Teknologiateollisuus ry, political strikes in Finland are having a significant impact on investment decisions. Over 80 percent of companies reported reducing their investments in Finland due to the ongoing strikes, with large companies being particularly affected. Twenty percent of large companies stated that they would invest significantly less in Finland, while 32 percent said they would invest slightly less.

Medium-sized companies were also impacted by the strikes, with nearly 60 percent reporting minor effects on their investment decisions. Some companies have already transferred their production to foreign units due to the strike, although it’s unclear if these transfers will be permanent.

Logistics strikes have also affected many industrial companies, with about one-third reporting that they had to close or limit their production. Difficulties in obtaining production inputs and implementing exports were also mentioned. The survey found that 75 percent of customers were affected by the strikes, which has led to concerns about reputational damage.

Only about one in ten industrial companies thought that labor disputes could result in layoffs. The survey only included responses from some member companies, which limits its representativeness. The government is currently working on legislation to limit the duration of political strikes to 24 hours, which could help alleviate concerns for companies affected by the strikes.

During a press conference, industry representatives emphasized the wide-ranging effects of the strikes on investment decisions and workplace atmosphere. Some companies are considering moving production to other countries due to the uncertainty surrounding these strikes. Despite potential laws limiting strike durations, it remains uncertain how this will affect long-term investment decisions for businesses operating in Finland.
