In 2024, six outstanding teachers from Maryland will be recognized with the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). These finalists represent the best of the state’s K-6th grade public schools, including Washington County Public Schools, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, and Howard County Public Schools.

Dr. Carey M. Wright, Interim State Superintendent of Schools, expressed his excitement about the announcement of these finalists. “I am honored to recognize Maryland’s six finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching,” he said. “These finalists embody the ideals of innovation, dedication, and excellence in teaching.”

The PAEMST program was established in 1983 and recognizes K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and computer science teachers who have both deep content knowledge of their subject matter and the ability to motivate and enable students to succeed in STEM fields. The award serves as a model and inspiration to other teachers across the country.
